We stand in the long tradition of Christians who are known as Baptists. The first Baptist meeting in Rehoboth was led by elder Obadiah Holmes in 1649. However, opposition from the established church prevented the formation of a permanent Baptist work and the tiny congregation was forced to disband.
In 1663, Baptists fleeing persecution in Britain arrived in the area. Finding a greater degree of tolerance they formed a church in a section of the town which they named Swansea, after the place they had left in their home country. Since that time there has been a succession of Baptist churches in Rehoboth.
Rehoboth Baptist Church is the most recent of these churches having been established in June, 1974 with a starting congregation of 4 people. The first public worship service was held at Johnson's Barn, Rehoboth, on July 21, 1974. The present facility was dedicated to the glory of God in 1983.
The church holds membership in The Conservative Baptist Association of America and supports missionaries in the United States and around the world.
We proclaim the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as the only way of salvation (Acts 4:12). This message is the GOOD NEWS that people of every kind and from every walk of life need to hear so that in believing they might be forgiven of their sins and be reconciled to God.
Our purpose is to bring honor and glory to God in all that we do and say (Matthew 5:13-16; Colossians 3:17). Our purpose is to know and enjoy God through worship, prayer, and the study of the Bible. Our purpose is to apply that knowledge to our lives that we might please God by growing in His grace and sharing His love with our fellow man.
Rehoboth Baptist Church welcomes into its membership all who have been born again by the power of the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-8; 1Peter 1:18-23). As a Baptist church, membership is extended to all who have been baptized by immersion as a public profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
